As part of the Digital Communications and Customer Engagement (DCCE) module, I conducted an SEO audit of my personal Wix website to better understand how optimised it was for visibility, performance, and user experience. This blog outlines my three-stage SEO journey from initial findings to implemented changes and final improvements, offering insight into how even small adjustments can have a big impact.

Initial SEO Audit Findings

The initial SEO audit for my website sineadfahey.com revealed a performance grade of a C - with 18 actionable recommendations. Below is a breakdown of performance by category.

Summary of Key Strengths:

  • Performance (A+) - The website loads quickly and has strong backend performance.

  • Social (B+) - Good integration with social platforms, contributing positively to traffic potential.

Summary of Weaknesses

  • Links (F) - No effective link-building strategies in place, poor internal and external linking.

  • On-Page SEO (D+) - Lacks keyword optimisation, header tag usage, and metadata.

  • Usability (B) - Mobile optimisation needs improvement, and minor accessibility issues were flagged.

Implemented Recommendations

Following the audit, some key recommendations were implemented to improve the site’s SEO:

  • Added social links

  • Ensure that on-site pages are linked to each other

  • Added meta description tag to pages

  • Enabled page indexing for all pages

  • Increased text content

  • Added more images and videos

  • No sitemap or page indexing

Post-Implementation Results

After re-running the audit, the improvements were clear. Here's how my scores looked after.

Key Takeaways

  • SEO is not a one-time task, it is a long-term strategy.

  • Fixing technical SEO (meta tags, header structure) offers quick wins.

  • Link-building takes time but is vital for authority and rankings.

I’ll be continuing my link-building journey and exploring structured data next. For now, I’m happy with the progress, and most importantly, I’ve learned how to self-audit and take action.
