Taking the Digital Communications and Customer Engagement (DCCE) module this semester was a real eye-opener. This was the first time for me as a Business and Human Resources student that I had to integrate digital marketing into my future professional career, and the relevance of this course for my career profoundly highlighted the need for the HR industry to recognise the importance of digital skills in a rapidly evolving technology environments.
During the course, I encountered topics ranging from the principles of digital marketing, customer engagement, web design, SEO, and analytics to content creation and social media marketing. With every single topic, Each topic opened my eyes to the behind-the-scenes work that goes into building trust, maintaining brand identity, and communicating with both customers and employees in a meaningful way.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned was how data and analytics (from tools like Google Analytics and LinkedIn Insights) can guide decision-making. This is something I can definitely carry into HR consulting, whether it’s measuring the effectiveness of internal communications or understanding how employees engage with HR platforms.
The module also helped me develop technical and creative skills. I created my own website, wrote blog content, and learned how to optimise it using SEO strategies. As a future HR consultant, being able to build a strong professional presence online and communicate clearly through digital channels will give me a competitive edge. Whether it's creating HR focused content, engaging with employees via social platforms, or designing onboarding materials, I now feel confident using digital tools to support people and solve workplace challenges.
Finally, the customer engagement aspect of this module really resonated with me. In HR, employees are your internal customers, and ensuring they feel heard and valued is key to building a positive workplace culture. I now see the value of applying marketing strategies like segmentation, feedback loops, and personalisation to employee engagement and satisfaction.
Overall, this module helped me grow in both confidence and capability, and I believe it’s equipped me with modern, adaptable skills that will be essential in my career as an HR consultant.
